Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a porcelain "cap" that completely covers the surface of a tooth. Generally, patients who would most benefit from dental crowns are those whose teeth are worn down, structurally weak, or decayed. After removing the decay and damage and then preparing the tooth, the dental crown that is custom crafted by our Reston cosmetic dentist is bonded and polished to perfection. Dental crowns yield stupendous aesthetic improvements and greatly benefit your oral health by preserving as much of the original tooth structure as possible.
Onlays
Onlays conserve a tooth's structure. A dental onlay usually requires minimal removal of a tooth's surface and helps patients avoid the future need for more extensive dental treatments, such as bridges, and dental implants. Dental onlays differ from inlays in that they cover the cusps of your teeth. Because onlays are an indirect restoration, they are installed over the course of a few visits to our Reston office.
Dr. Myles fits his patients for customized onlays by taking an impression of the treatment area. A temporary onlay is placed on the surface of your damaged tooth to prevent further damage. The impression is then sent to an American-based dental laboratory, where durable, safe, mercury-free materials are used to construct your crown to exact specifications. Within just a few days, the tooth-colored porcelain restoration is delivered to our dental facility and is ready to be installed. Once you return to our Reston office, the temporary onlay will be removed and the natural-looking restoration will be bonded to your tooth using high-strength dental resins.
Inlays
A dental inlay (filing) is customized to conceal minor structural damage that exists within the cusps of a tooth. Because Dr. Myles only uses tooth-colored, natural-looking compounds to complete all restorations, many patients who come to our facility are looking to replace their old or damaged metal fillings. Dr. Myles can carefully carve out the damaged fillings and replace them with beautiful, natural looking metal-free inlays. At our Reston office, inlays are created similarly to onlays and crowns and can be installed painlessly over the course of two visits.
