Whether you have dental phobia, need advanced dentistry services, or struggle with sensitive teeth, gums, and/or gag reflex, you may want to explore your dental sedation options. Many patients worry about the added cost of using sedation dentistry, but most dental practices provide affordable options to ensure you are completely comfortable, during even the most advanced dentistry treatments. Many dentistry offices offer several dental sedation options at various of price points to keep patients comfortable without blowing their budgets.
The Cost of Sedation Dentistry
The cost of dental sedation depends on a number of variables, including the type of sedative you choose, the length of your procedure, your dentist’s training, and dental insurance coverage. In most cases, the sedatives themselves are relatively affordable. The high price tags are associated with the training, man power, and technology necessary to ensure your safety throughout dental treatment under sedation. You’ll be cared for by your doctor and at least one other dentistry professional. They monitor your vitals throughout the process using advanced technology to ensure you are safe and relaxed throughout treatment.
Insurance & Sedation Dentistry
There are many different types of dental sedation available. Most dental offices provide one or more of these solutions to help their patients stay relaxed in the office. Nitrous oxide is inhaled through the nose during treatment to ensure comfort. Oral sedatives are administered prior to treatment in pill form and they remain effective throughout treatment. More advanced IV sedatives and general anesthesia are also available in some offices. Nitrous oxide was once covered by almost all dental insurance plans. Fewer insurance providers cover this option today, but there are some that do. Oral sedatives are prescribed prior to treatment, and these prescriptions may be covered by medical insurance plans. This helps to offset the costs of treatment using oral sedation. When general anesthesia is medically necessary, your dental or medical insurance may offer some coverage. A good dentist should help you to review your policy for any available treatment coverage.
