DENTAL CROWNS, INLAYS, & ONLAYS – RESTON, VA
Dr. Wayne Myles Gives Patients Something to Smile About
At the dental practice of Dr. Wayne Myles, our team sees many patients whose teeth are heavily damaged, decayed, or missing. Patients usually don't know which type of restoration they need to treat their problem. That is where our team of well-educated and experienced dental professionals step in. After conducting a comprehensive dental examination of a patient's teeth, gum tissue, and jaw, our specialists may recommend customized dental crowns, inlays, or onlays as an effective treatment plan. Our goal is to provide you with superior dental services that can be tailored to your individual needs and your unique smile.
A dental crown is a porcelain "cap" that completely covers the surface of a tooth. Generally, patients who would most benefit from dental crowns are those whose teeth are worn down, structurally weak, or fully decayed. After removing the decay and damage and then preparing the tooth, a dental crown that is custom crafted by our Reston cosmetic dentist is bonded in place and polished to perfection. Dental crowns yield stupendous aesthetic improvements and greatly benefit your oral health by preserving as much of the original tooth structure as possible.
Onlays conserve a tooth's natural structure and usually require minimal removal of a tooth's surface, helping patients avoid the future need for more extensive dental treatments, such as bridges and dental implants. Because onlays are an indirect dental restoration, they are installed over the course of a few dental visits.
Dr. Myles fits his patients for customized onlays by first taking an impression of the treatment area. A temporary onlay is placed on the surface of your tooth to prevent any further damage. The impression is then sent to an American-based dental laboratory where durable, safe, and mercury-free materials are used to construct your crown to exact specifications. Within just a few days, the tooth-colored porcelain restoration is delivered to our office and is ready to be installed. Once you return to us, the temporary onlay will be removed and the natural-looking restoration will be bonded to your tooth using high-strength dental resins.
A dental inlay is customized to conceal minor structural damage that exists within the cusps of a tooth. Because Dr. Myles only uses tooth-colored compounds to fabricate all of his dental restorations, many patients who come to see us are looking to replace their old or damaged metal fillings. Dr. Myles can carefully remove the old fillings and replace them with beautiful, natural looking metal-free inlays. At our Reston office, inlays are created similarly to onlays and crowns and can be installed painlessly over the course of two visits.
